23.10.2015 Bauhaus-Archiv / museum for design in Berlin - 3rd prize

museum

On the 100th founding anniversary of the Bauhaus, the most important school of architecture and design in the 20th century, the Bauhaus Museum in Berlin will be expanded by a new building to meet the increased demands of a museum with archive function.

The design suggests a structure of three single cubes which are connected by terraced levels to create an overall ensemble with the historic Bauhaus building. The design aims to perpetuate the base idea of the Bauhaus-Archiv, the „promenade architecturale". By elaborating this concept, the lookout platform designed by Gropius is widened towards the plaza and the foyer level of the new museum.
